subject: File Managers

Hi Andy

Replying to a message of Andy Roberts to paul marwick:

pm>> FC/2 - text mode, NC clone, _very_ few bugs,

 AR> What bugs in particular?

:-) I've not found anything other than a couple of cosmetic problems - mainly
in the Windows version (which I end up using, given the amount of time I have
to spend working on Windows boxes..). Officially, the following have been
fixed for the next release:

Archive reading would crash on archives with more than 32768 entries.
Found files list box wasn't being updated properly after deleting files from
it with F8

pm>> There is also an active mailing list (well, reasonably active...).

AR> Humm.. I should look into the Mailing List.

Its pretty quiet at present (also haven't heard back from Brian after sending
hi e-mail regarding my paying an extra fee to have a couple of extra features
added..). Still, a potentially valuable resource.

AR> Anyway I'm glad to see my old favorite moving up to the top of the
 AR> charts.

Well, I looked at a lot of file managers. I still like many of the things that
InspectA does, but I can't stand the bugs any more.. Of all the alternates I
looked at, FC/2 had the best mix of features and quality.

Which is Brian's suggestiion to mimic something found in OS/2 Commander - the
ability to define an association for the internal viewer. Not quite as
flexible, but does the job...

I use quite a lot of log files and prefer that the viewer does not start with
word wrap on. I didn't find any way of changing the default in the setup, but
I did find the following in FC/2's .INI file:

ViewerWrap=off

Once saved, this allows the internal viewer to start with word wrap off.

regards, paul
