I am having some strange things happening with my Trunck Trackers and
need to figure out what the problem is and whether or not there is a
solution.
I monitor one, and only one, trunked county-wide type II system with
about a dozen repeater sites covering 15 or so frequencies in the
800 MHz band. The closest repeater almost always is received with
full S-meter. However, I am receiving a signal on occasion that is
dropping-out, as if it were out-of-range and not completely
capturing the repeater. Since I only monitor the repeater, I
can't figure out what this signal is. Due to the length of
the transmission it might be fire dispatch, but the talk
group code doesn't display and I can't tell. I'm also only
monitoring fire most of the time and mobile units don't tend
to transmit for the long periods that this signal exhibits.
Even fire scene status reports are pretty well clipped and
short.
The signal can't be squelched-out, and the S-meter is
deflecting most of the way but the signal drops to zero
and bounces back up.
I was thinking it might be one of the repeaters on the
fringes of my reception limits, but don't ALL the repeaters
transmit simulaneously ALL the talkgroup transmissions, no
matter which repeater is picking up the mobile?
The only other thing I can think of is a wrong frequency entry in
the programming or talkgroup codes but I've checked all the codes
and I'm fairly certain they're OK. I am not sure about all the
talkgroup codes, though.
Any ideas?
