I went to the "next link" in the Atari chain (a 1meg ST) several years ago,
but could not see the sense in investing all the time it would've taken to
learn the system, acquire the appropriate software, etc. as opposed to
continuing to use my 8bit system (320K XE) to do the same things.
Sure, games are nicer looking (for the most part) on other platforms, but I
use the 8bit for productivity and have gotten used to it over the years.
There are some things that I can't do with my IBM clone that I can do with my
8bit system.
As to the ST actually being the "next link" in the Atari chain, it was not.
The 8bit was an 8bit and was a chain unto itself. Some claim that the Amiga
was actually the grandchild of the Atari 800/XL/XE series and that may be so,
but the 8bits are unique.
