Let's look at 3h vs. Booker T. When they started the feud and for a few weeks after, there was a heavy racial overtone to 3H and Flair's verbal attacks on Booker. The way the feud started out it was obvious that Booker was getting the title at WM. Then 3H decided he wanted to keep the title (at first because he was supposed to jump right into a feud with Goldberg). Suddenly, the racial overtones were dropped. At the match itself, 3H even managed to use the finish to bury Booker. IIRC, Booker was wailing on 3H. 3H gets a desperation Pedigree outta nowhere. 3H then proceeds to lay down for a bit, recovering from the attack, while Booker is waiting to be pinned. 3H finally makes it over for the one, two, and at this point everyone thought Booker'd pop up, three. With a pretty good history of this, is it any wonder that th fans are really tiring of 3H?
