That sounds like you're seeking a software solution to what appears to be a 
hardware problem...

More likely it was caused by the extensive use of the floppy drive.
What's happening is that the "disk change" signal isn't making it to the 
floppy controller.  This could be for a number of different reasons,  like:
1. The sensor in the drive has a bit of dirt in it.  (Blow the drive out with 
some compressed air,  maybe).
2. There's a problem with the cable. (Removing it and reseating it may help.)
3. There's a problem with the drive electronics,  or the controller.  
(Substitution of another drive should tell you.)
