subject: New vs. old ballparks

-> MLB is a business, and the fact is, that teams with new stadiums
-> frequently draw better than they did in their old stadiums. The
-> Cleveland Indians are a good example. They were considered a "small
-> market" team until they got a new stadium. Now they are considered a
-> "big market" team.
I'm not against the building of all the new stadiums.. Some of the teams
relaly needed new ones badly.. Cleveland was most certainly one of them...
Municipal Stadium, or the "Mistake By The Lake" was run down, too big for
baseball (74,000 seats), and not really even a good stadium when they built
it in the 1930's... I was pleased to see that one replaced.... There was no
charm there, nothing nice about it.. Jacob's Field is another story...
Wonderful place.
I even kinda feel the same way about Camden Yards replacing the older stadium
in Baltimore.... But other ones... Like the Twins already wanting a
replacement to the 16 year "old" Metrodome.. That's going TOO bar, business
or not. Besides, this is one fan that would love baseball more if it was ran
a little less like a corporation. And one other one: Replace th Kingdome! Not
because it's funky looking, or not "state of the art".. Three words: Falling
roof tiles. SAFETY HAZARD!!
-> Their problem is not that they built a new stadium, but that the new
-> stadium they built sucks.
The new Comiskey is not even close to the old one, and besides I kinda saw
the old one as a bit of a landmark... Destroying and replacing it was a
disgrace to the history of baseball!
