I'm not sure about that because I've never used the daily nodelist but why  
would anyone want to use diffs on a daily nodelist?

If the nodelist you're trying to update is the z1 version, z1 version  
diffs must be used. If the nodelist you're trying to update is the z2  
version, z2 version diffs must be used. From what you've said, the diffs  
you receive from Tommi are z2 version diffs which cannot be used to update  
a z1 version nodelist.
