I have a child who is an addict. She has so far escaed arrest because I
intervened and managed to convince her to go somewhere to detox, and worked
with her to keep her clean. She knows, however, that this behavior is
illegal,
and if she manages to get herself arrested, she gets the same treatment as
anyone else who makes a choice to behave in an illegal manner.
I love this child - but I loath the behavior. The fact that I love her does
not override the fact that there are rules from which she doesn't get
exemption because she doesn't find them to be convenient.
SHE is aware of the consequences of her choices - and she understands that,
whether the perception is that is it fair or not, if she makes a choice
knowing that there are consequences that she has no bitch coming if she meets
the consequences head on.
