Hello Herman! 16 May 05 15:02, Herman Trivilino wrote to Gerrit Kuehn: GK>> Sounds like you're working as a teacher. HT> Yup. I must admit that I'm not very familiar with those terms. "community college" means that the community (city, county, whatever) pays for it? GK>> I always had difficulties to understand what a /textbook/ in GK>> English speaking countries really is. There is a faint memory GK>> that it had something to do with the "audience". Textbooks GK>> are for undergraduate students, or something like that? HT> What's a textbook in non-English speaking countries?! I don't know, since I'm still unsure about the exact meaning. ;) To me, a textbook sounds like a book with text in it, so the name is quite redundant. Is my guess about the audience correct? If that's the case, I don't know good German words to distinguish book for "basic" and for "advanced" studies. Well, a "basic" book is sometimes called "Lehrbuch" (which translates to something like "teach book"), but that's all I can come up with.
