G'Day Lloyd,
Thanks for you're reply on this perplexing problem...
LM> Have you considered looking at the video card?
LM> I'de check video card (ram possibly) for either a zappped chip or dry
LM> joint. you should also check and ensure the main memory simms are in
LM> place properly and not damaged or dry joints.
Yes, tested every component & pcb, also tried another VLB video card,
and a standard ISA video card, the problem persisted.. ;-(
LM> Also try using the computer with the not connected to the machine. if
LM> you got a zap down the phone line say, you might have dones some damage
LM> to the modem and that's another thing to check..
Tried this,no change..
LM> all this seems like overkill I spose but.. if you remove every card
LM> from the system and only put it the minimum required to use it then see
LM> what happens.. if you have another video card or ram chips.. try
LM> swapping them and see if the problem goes away..
Did all of this also replaced every card including the motherboard, none of
this made any difference.. (Impossible, well I'm dumbfounded..)
... Late News...
-------------------------------
Replaced all original cards & motherboard back into system..
In disgust I left the system powered off for 2 days and did not even look
at it..
The system has mysteriously come good, ran burn-in diagnostic for 72 hrs
straight, the problem has not resurfaced either at boot or in windows,I
still don't know what the cause of this problem was or were it was,as
such I am more bewildered now than I was when it originally occured..
I've been in this game quite some time now,and this is only the second time,
after using every piece of electronic test equipment in my arsenal,I have
had to admit I'm beaten & none the wiser..
Anyways thanks for you're help & advice.. ;-)
Cheers Bill
... Tried to play my shoehorn... all I got was footnotes!
