Michael Hughes wildly raving about SORRY while Dan Thurman reloaded
MH> I would give anything for some adult conversation. I get so tired
MH> of flame wars, categorizations, and garbage. That is why I like this
MH> echo. It is friendly (generally), constructive and helpfull.
Yep , I suppose that's just the nature of the beast.
MH> WIFE? Wife? wife?????? No thank you. Single here and parent of a
MH> three year old! That is enough stress, thank you please. (:
I knew that, I don't know what I was thinking at the time. Trying to
stay on topic I guess.
MH> I have tried to start conversations - seed message areas - it
MH> doesn't work here.
So what has worked? Maybe that's the angle to shoot for. What are
the good folks in Colorado looking to do when they access a BBS?
DT>> points are the wave of the future. It gives your users all the
DT>> benefits of running a board and none of the headaches."
MH> Still a very interesting concept.
I toyed with the idea of and all point BBS, for about five minutes,
just to get a dependable mail feed but couldn't justify the time
and resources for someone elses benefit. If it could be a paying
it's own way subscription sort of thing I might have pursued it a
bit longer. Although I doubt it. I'm not that dedicated.
DT>> I've done that. We're just in a hurry to get through the log in.
MH> Hurry? Three or four questions that help me help you? Some login
Well my interests change daily according to what's attracted my
attention today. Usually my main interest at that point in time
is seeing what this BBS is all about.
MH> questionares are stupid. I have already entered my name, city and phone
MH> number -- dont ask me again! But I am more than happy to tell a sysop
MH> what I am interested in and what I am calling for. Just too bad that
MH> they never read them.
And that's the next reason. I've taken the time only to wonder if the
sysop ever reads his mail. You know how those pain in the rear newbies
are anyway. ;)
DT>> Your facing the same problem cable tv did 15 years ago. How do
MH> There is not a whole lot of add-ons anymore. I have stock updates
You've run me out of ideas Michael. What's your theme or niche ?
What do your regulars particularly enjoy about your board. Can
you expand on the single parenting portion and somehow pull in
the community services {or at least make them aware of your presence}
and sort of become a clearinghouse for community support. I'm just
brain storming here. I would really be interested in the knowing
a litlle bit more about what your boards about and waht you want
your board too be.
MH> Service is important - but there is a limit to service - when
MH> there is no reciprocal benefit. Some people want service without making
Yeah well that's the ol' 80/20 rule we all have to deal with.
My response is to burnoff the hardcore 20% complainers after
I've decided they're demands are unreasonable and I'll never
make them happy. They just cost more than they bring in.

It just doesn't get any better than this !
