I think it's because of the nature of the shareware version - it has MIDI
(the full game doesn't), so they both play at the same time. With the full
version, you'd just be hearing the CD.
Of course, if you want, you can manually play the CD each time you start up
a level. This does have the benefit of letting you choose the track you
want, but it is kind of labourious (especially since sometimes, the music
doesn't loop).
