| subject: | Re: Why does Windows XP do this... |
From: "Frank Haber" If RichG is right, and the old drive still contained an old XP install, I can only add one tiny thing. If it's trying to boot off the old drive, the HAL is probably all wrong for the hardware, which is why you get the silent hang. For next time, I find wiping the second drive, then installing as an extended partition only is a worthwhile thing to do. Belt and suspenders, close that barn door behind the horse, and all that. I'm such a stickinthemud on these low-level items that I shudder when I have to use drive overlay software, or force an NT install on a drive bigger than BIOS fully supports, or try a new partition manager. Problems usually only bite when you're in deep doo-doo, with a failing drive, low-level damage, and a setup that makes using recovery tools worse than walking on fire, barefoot. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 106/2000 633/267 |
