I know what you mean. In Germanic languages it's clear that the above is
short for "than *she* did". In English they long time ago seem to have
abandoned that notion.
We are gradually losing the proper form in Swedish as well. Only old people,
educated in the mid 20th century, still use the "old" proper form.
