Rich:
One of the local Unitarian churchs in my area has weekly meditation
sessions. They're one and half hours long and the church is packed with
non-members of all ages.  (Of course, someone could argue that Unitarians
are not an organized religion, but I digress!)    The meditation is run by
a bona fida mediation
organization for the mid-atlantic states (don't know if that would include
NJ) and a very experienced meditator.  This is NOT flaky.

I suspect if most church pastors knew how many people meditators brought
into the church, they'd stop preaching and start running meditation
sessions!  Our sessions start out with half an hour of quiet/guided
meditation, then maybe 15 to 25 minutes of "talk," then a bit
more meditation.  We're usually finished by 8:50.  There's social time on
the first Wednesday of every month after the session.
