Problem is,
1. I lost my connection
2. Without a connection, I couldn't ask for a list
3. Without a list, I couldn't easily find FidoNet BBSes in 514
So I used the most complete local area BBS list (maintained by
Juxtaposition BBS, a FidoNet board, which I didn't join because it's so
busy as to be impossible to logon to), and checked out the ones that
said "FidoNet" on their description, or had what appeared to be a
fidonet address in their description.
Of those, some were long distance (instant scratch) 
Some were down, closed, moved to another number without a Bell
forwarding message, etc.
Some didn't have a FidoNet connection anymore
Some didn't respond to my requests for specific echoes (like this one)
So, I had no FidoNet connection for quite a bit.
Hmm, do you know if there's telnet BBSes where I can get Fido echoes?
