YES!! My zebra finches LOVE spinach and broccoli, and apple. You
can also give them: GREEN FOODS: chickweed, collard, leaf and bibb
lettuce, endive, cabbage, carrot tops, celery leaves, dandelion leaves and
flowers, (if you feed them dandelion from your yard make sure the yard has
not been treated with any chemicals). FRUITS: pieces of apple, pears,
bananas, tomatoes, oranges, melons, cherries, grapes, grapefruit, berries,
raisins, and currants, (the latter two may also be given soaked).
Exotic finches also like to eat insects such as termites, ant eggs, small
spiders as well as man-made substitutes such as egg food. These are
important during the breeding season. If they don't take to the
new food at first just keep giving it to them. My zebra finches didn't
like the veggies much at first, but I just kept putting in small amounts
(this keeps them from being afraid of it and less waste to throw out)
finally their curiosity got the better of them, now I can hardly get the
veggies in before they fly down to start eating! So pick a couple of things
and start putting them in the cage regularly and see what happens.
