Sure, come on in. We're friendly, damnit! [grin]
RK>Is borland c++ 3.0 majorly outdated?
Not for you, nor any newbie. It is for DOS, though I have no
problems running any of my progs under W95. 3.0 supports all C++
syntax, and for $5 it is a very inexpensive way to get to know C++.
The manual is well written, the IDE (while not the greatest) is
colorful and flexible. I got mine for $10, and I used it to get
through my C++ programming classes.
IMHO, I think it is better for you than the windows based versions,
since the extra overhead of Windows can be distracting.
RK>I'm getting the feeling it is. If so, does anyone have any
RK>suggestions on the best *LOW COST* compiler deal out there? I know
RK>GNU (g++) is around, but jeez ...
GNU is free, but it's not for someone new to C. Installing it, and
getting it to work right can be a bear. If you can get someone to do
that for you, that would be good. But good luck.
RK>so, if you can give some info as to the latest/best c++ progs, I'd
RK>appreciate it. Thanks, Randal Kohutek - slip42@juno.com
Stay with 3.0 unless you got an extra $200. Then get a development
suite. However, if you are getting your feet wet with C++, your
garage sale deal is a good one in my opinion.
