Unfortunately the space is there in my config file:

EchoArea 12_steps h:\mail\msgbase\fidonet\12_steps -d "RECOVERY FOR ALL 12
STEPPERS" -b Squish

That is a direct cut and paste (wrapped here) of the line in my config file.
(Minus the stuff after Squish.)

Thanks for trying, but this is a little strange ...

If I remove the first line's description for 10th Amendment an hpt afix 
%LIST causes HPT to crash.

Any other attempts to get it to list with descriptions in the first few areas
causes the output you see.

There is a definate problem with HPT here.
