My zebra finches love apple (clip a whole slice to the bars of the
cage...they'll eat what they want), cucumbers (they eat only the
seeds), romaine lettuce (clip a big piece in the cage and they'll eat
what they want), cooked egg yolk, scrambled eggs, cooked corn, cooked
white rice and a few other things I can't recall. Make sure you
don't leave the fresh foods in the cage for too long, usually no more
than a couple hours. I just toss the food onto the clean floor or
into a small treat cup and they flit around eating it.
My canary, RIP, loved apple, cooked or thawed frozen corn!!, rice,
romaine lettuce, egg yolk or scrambled eggs, raw broccoli, cantaloupe.
Those birds have always been adventuresome eaters. My budgies,
however, need to have the same food introduced for a couple days
before they sample it. Just try putting a new food in the cage for
an hour a couple days in a row. Once they've tried it, you can
start with another food. They'll let you know what they like.
My birds get fresh veggies every day, fruit and eggs maybe 3 times a
week.
Have fun!! :)
