-> CH> The techniques used for battling these fires is -> CH> interesting. But one method used I think it way too risky -> CH> is burning an area outside a fire zone... as the fire will -> CH> not spread over an area already burned. -> CH> This is very risky IMHO because what if the deliberately -> CH> set fire spreads? It's usually done when the wind isn't -> CH> blowing. But here in Texas a strong wind can pick up at any -> CH> time, literally out of the blue. -> The method I am familiar with is usually to start the second -> fire ahead of, but not far from, the original fire. The rising -> hot air draws the 'back fire' toward the original fire. Wouldn't hurt to clear a perimeter of inflammables behind the new fire line either. In some recent fires I heard of a number of homeowners dynamiting trees and using chainsaws and rented Bobcats to clear brush thus saving their homes. Some ran those misting style flat garden sprayer hoses across their roofs in addition. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
