But the bread and butter fans (the majority, which means that they 
collectively pay the most money) do.

First and foremost, it's a business.  Secondly, it's entertainment.  In 
a distant third place, it's wrestling.

I'm thankful for the Benoits, Angles, Guerreroes, Jerichoes (even though 
I can't stand his character most of the time), and the like; they 
provide the wrestling.  If it weren't for the wrestling, I'd find other 
venues for entertainment.
