As I said elsewhere, all USB and ethernet traffic goes through a single
USB2 hub. That may drop the available rate below what the stick can do
elsewhere.

Following another poster's suggestion, what does top tell you about
processes that consume the most system resources?

It may also be a good idea to download, compile and run 'bonnie' to
measure filing system performance. Get it from one of these sites:

https://www.coker.com.au/bonnie++/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/bonnie/

Can you boot anything else from the same stick or an identical one? If
so, how does that compare for speed when doing the things where yo thinl
the RPi 3 is slow?
