subject: Re: HDCD, SDCD & Fractal-compression

HI !
Let's talk about the new CD-formats HDCD and SDCD !!
What do you think, will be the new CD-standart ?
And an other question, does anybody know something about the great fractal-
compression for Pictures?
There was an article in our german Magazin "Focus" in May or April, and
there was an interview with the programer of this compression-method.
He said, that he can reach an effective Compr.-ratio of 700:1, which
offers the ability of putting 40000 pictures on a standard CD-ROM.
To compress a picture will need a dozen Pentiums (like MPEG-Encoding),
but to bring these pictures onto a screen, will take only a second.
The nice thing with the fractal-compression will be, that you can zoom an
zoom and... but instead of getting bigger pixels, you will find some more
details. This is an other possitive effect of deviding the original
Pictures into many geometric. objects, what is ment by "fractal-
Compression.
What about using this instead of the Photo-CD format, with only 100 Pics
on one CD?
What about forgetting MPEG-1 with 200:1 Ratio and bad Quality?
Thanx for your answers, Heino.
