G'Day Rod,
Thankyou for taking the time to reply to this weird problem..
RS> Unfortunately the only really viable way to work out what the fault is
RS> is to selective swap components until you can see which is the one
Have tried replacing all the cards and motherboard with others that are
similar, this had no effect.. "Impossible I hear you say"..
I'm still dumbfounded... ;-(

RS> Certainly unusual symptoms. I'd try swapping the video card first.
Tried replacing the video card with another similar one, also tried with a
standard isa video card, no effect was noticed...

... Late breaking news!!!!
--------------------------------------
System back together with all original cards /bits in place..
In disgust I left system switched off for 2 days, and did not even look at
..
The problem has mysteriously disappeared, as quickly as it arrived,I'm
confused can still not find any answers for it's previous strange behaviour.
System has been running burnin diagnostic for 72 hrs straight, the problem
has not resurfaced..
The boot problem & mouse cursor problem under windows has disappeared..
I tend to agree with you're earlier statement that it must be a hardware
failure somewhere, but I'm blowed if I can find it,and I'm not exactly new
to computer hardware problem solving, not unlike yourself..
Anyway thanks again for your always invaluable advice.. ;-)
Cheers Bill
