Since you report that you can hear the words, try the following for an hour
a day for a few months:   Play something consisting of talking, and
WRITE DOWN everything you hear, WITHOUT trying to understand.   Read it
later.  I predict that after not more than 3 months you will be able to
understand what you hear.

(When I first went to university in Germany, I could not understand fast
enough for lectures, but discovered I could write everything down and then
read it at home.   Sorta like it went direct from the ears to the
fingers without passing through the brain.  After the first semester I
could understand everything.)
