You should have plugged it in and waited.  It worked for me when I had been at 
Alderman Gail Cyr's place in 1987 playing bridge for 4 hours.  When I tried
to start my car on leaving it failed.  I ten plugged it in and a half hour
later all was well.

And on the psyche.  I used to pack dynamite for a living and was never as
scared doing that as I was when I first experienced my first ether
backfire.
