-> WE AGREE.... Thank you.
Yes, and Briggs/Tiger Stadium, as funky as it looks, is one of the oldest
stadiums in baseball (in fact, it and Fenway opened the very same day)... And
the day it's closed down and replaced with the new one, baseball will lose
another great link to it's past....
I may be stubborn and opinionated, but one thing I truly feel and will never
change is a baseball is a game made better by it's tradition (and we have all
lost one of those recently with the loss of Harry Caray, and while I'm not a
Cubs fan, I am deeply saddened by it)... To me, it's a game, and it was
ruined when it was made a business. The game has changed for the worse. The
designated hitter (and ironically, my favorite player Reggie Jackson
prolonged his career with the DH), astroturf, domes, the "cookie cutter"
parks like Riverfront and Three Rivers of the 1970's, the new state of the
art parks of the 1990's, overboard salaries, etc.. Players no longer trying
to take an extra base ever, especially on a fly ball to the outfield (What's
up with that?!?), players becoming more arrogant and avoiding their fans...
Pay-per-view TV packages. Teams changing uniforms and changing names of
stadiums (3com?? QUALCOMM?!?!? Jack Murphy should be spinning in his grave,
but I at least know his brother Bob is not happy.).. Players wanting $15
million a year.. Lights. Well, okay, since I'm sensetive to the sun, night
games are cool, though WRIGLEY with lights?!? PLAYER STRIKES. I mean, I can't
help to be greatly diappointed with the direction the game is going in.. Even
the 1997 World Series.. I was happy Leyland got a ring, and happy it wasn't
the Braves in another series, but watching the Marlins (a team I once liked)
literally buy a championship?? It didn't seem right to me... *sigh*
Baseball needs to move back toward it's tradition... =/
