-> Goodbye Harry...
=(
-> Someone said that Tommy Lasorda was a great ambassador for baseball,
-> however; I have to say that Caray was the REAL ambassador. When he
-> jumped to the Cubs and became a favorite on WGN, he MADE the Cubs a
-> national team. His rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during
-> the 7th Inning Stretch was a tradition that created a bond among the
-> fans and was something that everyone looked forward to during their
-> first visit to Wrigley (Mmy niece, who is mentally retarded,
-> indirectly loves Harry because I sing "Take Me Out To The
-> Ballgame" to her like he did and she gets a big smile on her face
-> when I sing the song). It'll be hard to hear that song and not think
-> of Harry. He will be missed because of all the things that he did
-> positively for baseball.
No, baseball, and especially the 7th inning stretch and the Cubs will never
be the same.. I don't think I'll ever be able to sit down and watch a Cubs
game on WGN ever again, it will never again feel right... A great, great loss
to the game of baseball.. Harry made the games special, even though I've
never been much of a Cubs fan and in the last few years, Harry was making his
share of gaffes on the air... But he was fun, always was fun.. No matter how
bad Harry was doing physically, no matter how dismal the Cubs season was,
didn't matter if they were down 13-2 in the eighth inning, he made the games
interesting, and the game will never be the same... =( He will be missed...
-> Goodbye Yarac Yrrah, we'll miss you....
I take it this is a play on the way Harry used to pronounce Carl Yastremski's
name backwards.... Heh... I never actually heard that one myself.. Closest I
ever came was hearing him try to announce a Grudzilanick (sp?) to Stankiwitz
to Rodriguez DP for an Expos game a few years ago, and I believe after
slipping 2-3 times he said "Oh, heck, short to second to first.. double
play".. I don't blame him, even that one is tongue twister for me... *sigh*
