C7 thru C9: use not known, TGs not known.
C10 is a FD tac for Medical Incident Scenes (ambulance assist, MVAs, etc).
Its talkgroup is not known. In fact, it may even be a non-trunked frequency.
Still investigating.
C11 is supposedly a tac for large (in terms of area) incidents. Example: One
crew wanted to try it out in a highrise. It may be the same type of setup as
C10. Again, still looking. C12 may also be this way.
304 - Fire Dispatch North - C13
336 - Fire Dispatch South - C14
368 - Fire Dispatch Alternate (when above two get busy) - C15
400 - Fire Dispatch Alternate - C16
Others:
311 - Fire - this group shows up occasionally and is what I'm calling a
'patchgroup'--used by Fire to transmit on C13 and C14 at the same time.
343 - Fire - same thing as 311.
Any groups you find that are 5 digits long and start with a 3 (ie. 33080,
33976, etc) are Calgary Police Service talkgroups. You will notice that they
all sound like buzzsaws, or a bus running at high idle right beside you.
They're digital, and you can do one of three things: You can let the TT skip
over them (will take about a quarter-second to do), you can set up a scan
list instead of using Search mode (but I prefer using Search mode because I'm
still trying to find TGs for about 18-20 channels), or you can try locking
out all the CPS talkgroups while in Search mode. However, using this last
method, I hit the limit of 100 talkgroups locked out, and still occasionally
hear a stray "brraaap".
With only 8 frequencies at most per zone, I felt like I was being rather
inefficient in storing frequencies in my TT. So what I did was program the
trunk stuff in, then go into conventional mode and lock out all the trunk
frequencies. Then I filled up the blank spots in those banks with my
conventional frequencies. So I can hit TRNK and 1 and get the northwest trunk
zone, or I can just hit SCAN and listen to all my conventional stuff on bank
1 instead. Since the trunking program apparently ignores the lockout flag,
locking out the trunk frequencies doesn't affect trunk tracking, and it means
that you won't hear the trunk data when scanning in conventional mode.
One more thing: In the EMS talkgroup listing above, I mention a simplex
channel. This is not 'simplex' as I'm used to knowing it, which means a non-
repeater frequency. Instead, this simplex concept means that those channels
are 'separate' in each of the four zones of the city trunks. For example, if
an EMS unit on the northwest trunk is using A13, it'll only be heard on the
northwest trunk--the A13 channel on the southeast, southwest, and central
trunks will all be silent.
I think I've covered just about all of it. This info is up-to-date as of the
date on this message. Again, if you want to know more, or if you want to know
if I've uncovered anything else, email me.
