PM> So if it hadn't been for the games with high-quality sounds, they
PM> might as well have been making toaster ovens.
Who says they don't? You ever look inside a modern Hamilton Beach
appliance?
PM> I'm not sure this fancy sound trick is all that fancy afterall:
PM> you seem to have done some sort of similar thing with some of the SW
PM> effects: the gun turret in Zilla Construcion comes to mind. It
PM> sounds different each time I fire it. Nice.
No real trick here. I think Jim did a random pitch shift for each time the
sound is triggered. An old technique that still works.
PM> If I get bored with the bass from these things, I have two giant 3'
PM> by 2' (yes, that's feet) sub woofers and the amps to drive them to
PM> hell and back.
If I had stuff like that in my studio, I wouldn't be able to find a place
to sit. That's almost as big as my office is.
PM> OK. Keep in mind I liked practically all the voice clips. The
PM> reverb effect is really neat on Jg5049A -probably nothing too fancy
PM> there, but I like the sound. :)
Thank Sound Forge for that - good effects processing tools.
PM> Other faves include Ninalrt, Cgalrt, Cgamb, Cgscrm, JG6053, JG3022,
PM> Ilike01 (my windows Exit noise: what better to use?), Jgen06 and
PM> the 40MM* grenade series.
I think all of these are mine.
PM> Riotfir1 is really cool; when the retail game comes out, I hope to
PM> take that effect and Explrg and modify them to make it more
PM> 'anime-like' and perhaps change CGwhack to sound like Kenshiro's
PM> "Hundred Punch" effect from Fist of the North Star.
Most of the explosions are 22kHz, while everything else is 11kHz, BTW.
Make sure you resample appropriately.
PM> If you've seen it, you know what I mean. *laugh*
Haven't seen it, sorry, but I'd bet someone up at the office has.
PM> Speaking of laughing, Haha19 sounds suspiciously like a rather famous
PM> laugh from someone who'd probably get along great with Lo Wang....
PM> _What_ have you guys been watching anyway?
The laughter was just John Galt on a roll. I told him we needed laughs,
and he went on for a few minutes in short bursts. Worked well.
John's a great guy to work with. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear him
turn up in DNF and Prey. He's already in Balls of Steel, as is Jon St.
John.
Some kick, eh? The voices behind Duke and SW in the same game. Should be
fun to hear the finished product.
