CD>BR:>I'm new to modems, and I'm having an U/L problem that I haven't been
able
CD>BR:>to solve myself:
CD>BR:>I tried U/Ling two ZIP files to three different local BBS's. This was
my
CD>BR:>first try with files, although I've been U/Ling much smaller QWK
packett
CD>BR:>replies for several weeks without a problem.
CD>(deleted for brevity)
CD>BR:>I'm using QmodemPro for Windows 1.11c and a Hayes Ult/Optima 144
CD>BR:>fax/modem set at 19,200 bps, Zmodem protocol with CTS/RTS On, DTE
CD>BR:>locked, full duplex and ANSI emulation set at 018.
CD>don't know what you mean by emulation set at 018 but as long as its ansi
Parity=0, Stop Bits=1, Data Bits=8
CD>doesn't matter. Now do you have an internal or external modem, this
CD>makes a difference. If internal, use a utility to check your 16550 to
CD>see if its functioning properly, if its faulty, it can affect uploads.
I have an internal card with a 16550A URT, and it is functioning as it
should, according to the utility I checked it with.
CD>You should be seeing an
CD>output buffer overflow just before it aborts, also does it abort to the
CD>bbs or just drops carrier without warning (and look closely at the cps
CD>rates, if it starts dropping steadily, then it's definitely a buffer
CD>problem with the serial port, meaning you need a 16550 uart chip if
CD>internal or a serial card with it for external use.
There is no warning whatsoever! No messages. Cps remains consistent with
normal operation (up a little, down a little throughout a file transfer,
either u/l, or d/l.
When the box disappears, I'm back with the BBS, which says transfer
aborted, but it gives no reason.
CD>BR:>I started with the speed set at 115,xxx baud and reduced it to
57,xxx, CD>BR:>then finally to 19,200, but that didn't solve the
problem.
CD>with a 14400, never a need to set it higher than 19200, a lot of bbs's
CD>lock their settings at this speed.
I set it to 19,200, but it made no difference.
Thanks for the reply, Charles. This problem has me stumped. Any other
suggestions for me to try? Hope so!
Bob
