KJ> I had some baby tiels that ended up smaller than average. They're all
KJ> fine. Just on the small side. 70-75 grams max.
I'm sorry to say that I don't know what he weighs...but he'll eat
anything....and he eats a lot...she is a little picky...but as
long as they get veggies and some fruit every day plus their
seeds I don't worry..he doesn't seem any lighter and he put
weight on right after I got him....he thinks that I'm suppose to
feed him before myself...we kinda fight over who gets the first
bite...and how often he is allowed to take the food before it
reasches my mouth...I tried fixing him his own plate...but he
wants mine....;-)
> She is 4 months old and much bigger than he is...
KJ> Again, that's normal--hens are usually larger.
he hehe...well she is bigger....and she doesn't take too much
from him...;-)
KJ> Just watch'em closely when they're out together.
> He hehe...don't you think she is a bit young yet....I didn't
> think I had to worry about them for a while yet....;-)
KJ> Her young age doesn't mean he won't try! Males don't respect younger
KJ> hens like humans are *supposed* to!
Oops...well haven't had a problem so far he is afraid of her...
I leave them alone in the living room to play...because if I sit
in there they don't play they head directly for me....;-)
I have a TV tray table on wheels set up with toys...and I picked
up a playpen it is for parakeets...but will do till I have one
made...it was originally $19 marked down to $4...this is now on
my coffee table....she loves it...he doesn't know what to do with
it yet...he has always been a little leery of new things...she
doesn't care...she just goes right at what ever it is...;-)
OOoh...I can hear them I'm not that far away...and if there is a
problem..she let's me know....;-)
> I live and I was wearing a cockatiel pin on my shirt...the woman
> at the check out offered me an AG for $30 plus his cage...I
KJ> Always beware the bargain bird, Sue. Every one I've ever gotten ended
KJ> up being sick. If you DO pursue this, check him out THOROUGHLY before
KJ> handing over any cash. Take your breeder friend with you if possible.
I think that is why I didn't ask my friend to loan me the
money...it sounded too good to be true....my breeder's husband
told me to carry his number when I go anywhere...and if I get an
offer like that again...call him....he'll come with the money....
I was leery about bringing a strange bird in my apartment...I
really don't have room to quarantine and I don't want to put my
babies at risk...;-)
> Thank you for the advice...I was afraid you were going to tell
>me that the cage was wrong for them...but that's ok...I'll deal with
> it..it is just so nice and big...;-)
KJ> Got a nice houseplant that would like to grow in and out of those
KJ> bars? It's the "IN" decorating style these days, I hear!
No housplants...I have a tendency to forget to water them...and
that would be just one more thing that I would have to keep
Scoobie away from....I've decided to try and sell the cage and
get my babies a larger one more suited to them....but I'm in no
hurry...they like their cage...;-) But I'd like a bigger one
that they could get around more....and have more fun....when
they aren't out running around....;-)
Thank you for all the help you and everyone else on this echo has
given me...I don't think my babies would be as healthy as they
are with out the help you have all given me...;-)
Thanks Folks...;-)
Sue, Scoobie Doo, and Princess..;-)
