I've finally decided to start restoring my Grandmother's 1972
4-door Lincoln Continental. It's been sitting in an unheated garage
for about 12 years (NC weather). Grandma drove it in there- it
wasn't broken or towed or anything. She just didn't like the mileage
it got. I have a feeling I won't like the mileage either.
I'm hoping that I can get it running well enough to drive it
back home and work on the finer details then. A friend of mine who
is a mechanic said all we'd have to do is: 1. drain and replace the
fuel, 2. drain and replace the oil, 3. put gas in the carb, 3. put
in a new battery. And a new tire, also.
Now I've got this sneaking feeling that it will need a bit more
than this after sitting for 12 years in a row. The engine has 84,000
miles on it, so I'd imagine at least a few things have gone bad. But we
shall see. With my luck, the brakes will go while I'm steering it along
I-40. I'm no mechanic, so this will be one big nightmarish learning
experience for me.
BTW, what size engine does this thing have, and if things come to
worse, will it fit in the bay of a 64 Fairlane?
