It was during "The Marathon Man," and Hoffman was supposed to come into some scene winded, absolutely exhausted. The story goes, he ran around the block (somewhere in NY where they were filming**). When he got back, he came into where they were filming the scene and explained what he'd just done, all the while gasping for breath...to which Larry replied with the oft-quoted phrase. (After doing a one-man show as Vivien Leigh as my senior theater project in high school, I can only ever think of him as "Larry." :-) ) **(At least some of the movie was filmed in the diamond district, around 47th St. We were there shopping with my parents for something glittery for my mother, and my father kept staring at one particular group of Hassidim on the street. Sure, we noticed there was filming going on, but we're New Yorkers: you shrug your shoulders (if that) and move on about your business. Anyway, my father is looking, and looking...and suddenly says, "That's my brother." We went over to the group, and sure enough, my uncle was there as an extra, costumed as a Hassidim. I still can't believe my father picked him out!)
