That does help sometimes.  I've always looked at the Method (I'm trained 
the Meisner way myself) as a tool to use to get you through rough 
patches, not as the be-all and end-all of the process.  You have many 
tools in your toolbox, and you use the ones that help.  I've seen a 
number of actors (gender-neutral) put themselves through all kinds of 
grief with no result.
