SB> Are all the hidden costs of auto travel, such as the health
SB> costs of air pollution, the costs related to the increased
SB> accident rates resulting from traffic congestion, and the cost
SB> in lost real-estate opportunities and increased construction
SB> costs that come from having to accomodate thousands of private

INTO the economy, all the jobs that are generated by the automobile and
it's related industries.
I seem to recall reading once that back in 1900 1 out of every five
workers in the country worked for the railroads. I just can't see that
kind of growth in the rail industry replacing the jobs lost by decreased
dependence on the automobile.
