BK>> the big arguement here is that govt should be run like a
BK>> business. So, business men take over the govt and think only
BK>> about how they can profit in the short run.
BL> We went through that "business" ploy a few elections back.
BL> It's what an incumebnt government *has* to say... we are
BL> really good at running the economy and these other guys
BL> couldn't run a Mom and Pop store.
BL> I have to admit that I am impressed by your Republican
BL> Party. I never would have thought that anyone could turn a
BL> war hero into a liability! This shows true genius... and a
BL> total lack of decency or honour but hey, that's politics.
Actually, the war is a liability internationally, but locally
they are milking it for votes. See, people who are not Americans
don't get to vote, and they are the ones who are seeing what's
going on.
Some of us pay attention, but too many get bought by advertising
spending.
BK>> but Clinton also signed NAFTA, which contradicts that whole
BK>> principle. And NAFTA has, so far, proven to be a disaster for
BK>> both the US and Mexico.
BL> And we've just signed a FTA with the US. Aaargh!
Well, take comfort in the fact that we will probably both suffer
for it.
...
BL> offshore is that the factory is cheap and the plant is
BL> designed to fly in and out in a Boeing. It doesn't help
BL> the cheap country long-term, and it murders the local
BL> employementy market.
One of our traveling engineers told me they set up a factory in
Mexico where the machinery is all on steel pallets, so they can
just pick them up and move them.
BL> If you need the perfect way to build a poor country up,
BL> look at Singapore, or even Hong Kong.
I doubt they are all that perfect. They trade freedom for money,
and they get taken in the end.
BK>> Don't give Clinton too much credit. Even he bought into the
BK>> business line too much.
BL> Of course he did... but which World leader doesn't,
BL> nowadays? In Singapore, btw, Lee Kuan Yew was 100%
BL> business, but at the same time he was a patriot whose main
BL> concern was his people.
No dictator's main concern is his people. In the end he will
sell them out.
BL> It really comes down to the
BL> leader's vision. Weak men get pushed but those around them
BL> and tend to take the easy path, even when it goes against
The leader's vision is only good in the short term at best. The
culture must incorporate a good vision or it will fail.
BL> what they truly believe. Clinton was flawed, obviously,
BL> but compared to this latest dill you have running the
BL> show, he was the two Roosevelts in one!
Daffy duck could claim that.
