there are two "Clone" Projects of .NET: Mono
(http://www.mono-project.com) and dotGnu http://www.dotgnu.org/ from the
FSF, where Mono is IMO the most promising project.

The Mono guys were bought by Novell. ANd Mono runs on Linux, S390, OSX to
name a few. But Mono only implements a subset of .NET.
