The sound mixing trick, which Lee was talking about, is a little more
complicated than that. What's happening in Shadow Warrior, I believe, is
that the pitch is being modulated after every shot. In Trespasser, the
objects involved have their own individual sounds. When two objects meet,
the velocitity and echo variables are calculated, and the end mix is fed into
a sound channel.
