-> WC> The following ( next days') inventory I wrote in OCTAL but
-> WC> it appears he had someone proof it for him and they noticed
-> WC> the distinct absense of the numbers 8 and 9

-> Ok, that one is really over the edge. It was really pretty
-> astute of someone to catch the absense.

I was surprised but it did take him over an hour and a half after
hitting the front office and chatting up the girls before he came back
steamed.

I'd intended to do it in hexadecimal because I was more adept
at converting that at the time but figured he'd catch that or his proof
reader would.
Octal in my head took me three times as long while Roman Numerals
only added 20 percent and hex perhaps twice the time.

-> After all, you were just doing it computer style.

So many bases but yes I was keeping it tied to existing computer
data handling format.

-> WC> Hey if the guy had been decent to his subordinates I'd not
->  WC> pulled the stunts.

-> It does tend to be that way.

All I really wanted to do was my job to the best of my abilities, helps
pass the time more quickly.

Interference with my job slowing things down made for days seeming
longer than they were.

When I transfered to printer in production the boss there was
universally hated and he tried similar crud on everyone.

Put me to work as the "forklift utility driver" thus devastating
my daily printing production quotas.

So one day the personel manager walks into the print shop
and I know what's coming, I'm going to get canned.... but

I'd taken the precaution of accounting for my time on the forklift
and written it in on the daily production reports for the previous two
months.
I told David Goodwin this and without a word he turned, returned to the
front office and verified it.

My boss was less than pleased but had been well reamed out
so I caught no fallout.

Hey, wanna be an AH? turnabout's fair play and if the boom nails you
in the head as it comes across during come about and drills you
you had it coming.

I much prefer to play nice but I never was one to take unjustified
crap gracefully.
