I have Word 2000, so it may be slightly different for you.

1. Select File, New
2. Select the type of document on which you want to base your
   template. For example, "Blank Document".
3. In the "Create New" radio button box, click "Template"
   instead of "Document".
4. Click Ok.
5. Add the text, styles, etc. you want in the template. 6. Select File Save
7. Enter a name for the template.
8. Click "Save".

Now when you choose File, New, you will see your template as one of the choices.
