Now that the 'spoiler alerts' are over, I would like to express my
appreciation to the Trek offices for their two-fold tribute in the last
episode of DEEP SPACE NINE.
Not only did the Mark Scott Zicree episode pay homage to the struggles of
Negro writers in the 1950s, and in an interesting way...
It also paid homage to the 1930s and 1950s versions of STAR TREK in radio and
pulp fiction, as many long-time readers here are aware of the history of
ek.
Kudos for a well-written script.
There were a few 'temporal anomalies'..."cool" didn't enter into the American
'slanguage', mainstream or ethnic, until about 4-5 years later when the
advent of air-conditioning became available; I happen to have the same model
of refrigerator as "Ben Russell" had in his flat, and it wasn't made until
1954...and in any event would have been too expensive for a rented apartment.
The 'color' footage of the New York street scene establishing shot, showing
the street corner from above, looking down...that's a bit of stock footage
that Paramount has used in countless films...problem is, I can't recall any
of them by title at the moment...though "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"
comes to mind...
