This RadShack Pro-2026 is the first scanner I've owned that has a constant
backlit display. I've heard and read that constant backlighting isn't
necessarily a good thing because a) those things burn out sooner than later
and b) they generate a bit of heat. So I've got a few questions to ask of
y'all:
1) Can the tiny lightbulb be replaced with a clear/amber LED or perhaps a a
group of them?
2) If I install my own on/off switch, where would be a good place to mount
it? I'm hesitant to drill any more holes in the case - I figure they
surrounded that thing with metal for a reason.
3) Would a garden-variety photoresistor (coupled perhaps with a pot to
adjust sensitivity) work as an automatic on/off switch, or would it be
necessary to manufacture a switching circuit of some kind? And, as with a
switch, where would I mount the photoresister?
My current vehicle mounting scheme doesn't use the mounting knobs, so I guess
I could use those holes, now that I think of it.
And, totally unrelated to the above...
4) Anybody know how to disable the keypress beep on this thing?
