I'm glad my boss didn't see this yesterday.. we had a bunch of seeming
unrelated DSL outages...unrelated except they were all on the same DSLAM.
But most of the people on that DSLAM-switch-router combo were still working
fine.

My test circuit was one of the > 20 that was down - the diagnostics on
the modem, which are unusually good for a cheap model, indicated an ATM
problem. Rebooting the gateway router didn't do a thing.

Rebooting the DSLAM and switch at 4am this morning fixed everything. First
time we've rebooted that DSLAM, I think. It's been installed since at least
early 2002, when I started working there.

But it was so weird and random that if there had been a hint of a possible
other problem, we would have been off in the wrong direction for way too
long. Although I suspect that the fact you couldn't see a modem configured
as a router, not involving Windows at all, would have helped....
