It is a difficult thing to fight from within the company. Once a company
becomes the market leader they believe everyone else is following them and
that the reason they are the market leader is because they did the right
things and that's what got them there.

Few companies who take the market away from a market leader realize that
they have done so because the market leader screwed themselves. Microsoft
has gained market share in so many areas simply because the leaders in
those areas were foolish that they think it was MS doing things right. It
wasn't, it was customers picking something less objectionable, something
that "sucked less".

Yeah ok, MS did make some good moves, the got preloaded, they did the
single driver thing, but other than that they really didn't do anything
that nobody else does right.
