You know Rich, when you buy a new car the first thing you don't have to =
do is go lookup to see if there were any recalls, all the recall work = has
already been done.

The initial framework install was optional. The updates were =
classified critical and would be automatic unless you disabled automatic =
updates and notifications.

I wasn't even addressing the issue of WHY I had to install it, just =
the issues of installing an exploitable version right from windowsupdate =
and getting no warning that it was making me exploitable and that I =
should go back and run a second check and then when that was done no =
warning that I should go back and run a windows update scan for a THIRD =
TIME.

Why can't they just patch the stupid .NET framework distribution so =
it's current when you install it? Is there some reason for the repeat =
trips to windows update? (should I create my own slipstream install =
Rich?)

If you don't have applications that use the .NET Framework then =
don't install it. That's what I suggest to people. I make the same =
suggestion regarding Java. Sun's Java download is not just unnecessary =
if you don't have an application to run. It is unfriendly enough to =
configure itself to always run.

I've so far avoided anything that required it, I don't see why I =
should have
to have a less secure system just to make it easier for a =
programmer to
write a program. I intend to continue to resist anything .NET..
