I've been seeing 14.4k listed on the internet for that "model" in
some equipment inventory listings, and sometimes 36.6k.  That's why this
whole thing is so confusing.

There's the problem.  I don't have a computer in which I can readily test
this!    But it looks like I have to tear an existing PC apart.
