AM> I would like any suggestions on geting ready for the Tech+ and Gen
AM> tests. How in the world does a person recieve cw at 13wpm and ubove?
TW> It is Called; Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice.
TW> It is all a matter of training the Brain to Think in Dots and
TW> Dashes(Long and short tomes) rather than Verbal sounds. Many have done
TW> it and many have failed. You never know untill you try. There is
TW> however several good Computer programs for both Code Practice and
TW> Theory Practice. Check in yuor area fro a Ham Radio Oriented BBS. Or
TW> if yuo have it Search teh Internet.
One comment: I don't agree with thinking in terms of dots and
dashes. I think that slows people's learning down. I would prefer
the code to be thought of in terms of dits and dahs, since that's
fairly close to what the code sounds like in real life.
My prior attempts to learn code failed because I was thinking of
dots and dashes and then trying to translate that into the
sounds I was hearing. Once I caught on to the di-dah method
it didn't take long before I knew all the characters.
At the time I was going for my license, I owned a Commodore-64
and found a really great code practice cartridge called Morse
Coach that really worked well for me. One module of the program
was a speed tutor. The faster you responded to the character
sent by hitting corresponding key on the keyboard, the faster
the program would go.
