I don't think I can describe HTML adequately in only a few paragraphs.
If you are unfamiliar with the World Wide Web and only know BBSes,
then I guess the closest comparison to HyperText Markup Language is RIP, but
the two operate totally differently.
The web page consists of a number of text pages coded with HTML tags. The
viewer looks at these pages with a browser which reads the tags and displays
the text in appropriate sizes and colours and inserts GIF or JPG images if
they are defined in the document. The power of HTML is that links can be
inserted in these pages which allow the user to jump from one page to the
next, be it on the computer they are visiting or on one located on a computer
somewhere else on the network.
There is no reason that a BBS program cannot support HTML, except very few
BBS
authors have done so. Part of the problem is that it would require a special
browser-like terminal program which could display the HTML files. I know
Wildcat has such a program and I believe that Procomm can handle HTML, but i
don't know about any others.
Does anyone else have any ideas about implementing HTML in a Maximus
environment?
